Our experience at Toronto Kiddies Carnival was a meaningful opportunity to introduce young people to Moko Jumbie culture through participation, creativity, and community. Over several weeks, children learned to stilt walk, created elements of their costumes, and worked together to prepare for the parade. Seeing them take their first steps on stilts and eventually bring their creations onto the road was a powerful reminder of how cultural traditions can be passed on through hands-on experiences. It was especially meaningful to bring Moko Jumbie into Kiddies Carnival in a way that allowed children to not only see the tradition, but actively participate in and contribute to its continuation.
